Welsh Quilts

A couple of years back my PIC and I set off to Wales to see an Exhibition of Welsh Quilts at Llancaicach Fawr Manor.
The photos are of a very sad welsh quilt but someone has reproduced it so this pattern is not lost to the world.

This was all well before my blogging time and although their were some wonderful examples of welsh quilts I sadly didn't take many photos- If only we could turn the clock back.
Their were workshops going on at the Manor and Co Authors of Making Welsh Quilts Clair Claridge and Mary Jenkins were on hand at the quilting frame demonstrating quilting.

So the purpose of this blog is to let you know Mary Jenkins now has her own blog so if you want to learn a little more about Welsh Quilts and traditions take a look at Little Welsh Quilts.

Enjoy.

Presents, Autumn and Quilts

PRESENTS FROM MY PIC

QUILTS FOR BINDING
AUTUMN TABLE RUNNER
IMPERIAL GARDENS, CHELTENHAM
GUSTAV HOLST IN THE IMPERIAL GARDENS
It has been a nice week and a bit like Christmas with my PIC back home- We caught up with all she had been up to and was given some lovely pressie's from her trip.
I have Blackbird Designs book - Country Inn and personally autographed by Barb and Alma, how about that! A Schnibbles pattern , Straw needles a lovely yard of Jo Morton's Covey Toile and you all know how I love a bit of Toile.
I also got a Buggy Barn pattern and my very own traveling coffee mug from the Buggy Barn courtesy of Adrian- Sue's husband.
That will be put to good use next weekend when I head off down to Cornwall and you know the other daft thing I am so pleased about is I have a Buggy Barn brown paper bag. When Lori sent me the gift of a glue pen a few weeks ago- I got just as excited that it came in a Stitchin Post bag. How sad am I. I must get out more.

I also collected four quilts from Rosemary at Frome Valley quilting so a whole load of binding is going to be going on.

So on the sewing front I decided I didn't have anything autumn like to start putting my little treasure I collect when I am walking Mery- I love this time of year when autumns bounty abounds. So I set too and made this table runner to lay the fruits of the Horse Chestnut tree on to.I also picked lots of blackberries that were washed and put into the freezer for when I get the urge to make a blackberry and apple pie. Next month it will be pumpkin time so the table runner will come in useful for that too.

You wouldn't have believed it was Autumn yesterday - I went into Cheltenham and from the photos you will see it looks like the height of summer. The picture is taken in the Imperial Gardens behind the Town Hall- Look at all those beautiful regency houses in the background and I couldn't resist taking a picture of Gustav Holst who wrote The Planets and was born in Cheltenham in 1874.

Till next time
Sue

I Have Reached 100

3 generations Neil, me and mum

Klosjes total this week 3- So have now reached 100. I made these after my mum went home on Thursday . She had a good time with me last week and I was exhausted . I don't know what she is on but she can certainly keep going even though she is 86 . A big thank you to all of you who sent her Birthday Wishes.

Whilst we were out and about we went to Baileys Home and Garden where I spotted these spools- Aren't they fun -the rack of thread spools was lovely but just a tad expensive but I may just have to go back and buy some of the large spools and use them for decorating.

I decided to put 64 of my Klosjes together to see how it is going to look. The plan is to make it into a medallion quilt but have yet to find a suitable light fabric to use as the infill round the quilt. I tried plain cream but it looked to stark. I do have something that looks good but sod's law is I only have a 1/2 metre. So I am now on the look out for THAT fabric that will give me the look I want.

Ground Zero Quilt

I took this picture of the Ground Zero Quilt at the festival of Quilts last month and decided then I would post it today to remember the 9/11 victims.

It was truly a dreadful day in history when so many innocent people lost their lives and families were robbed of their loved ones.

Gone but not forgotten.

Hunters Star and Klosjes

I have been having a little dig around in the UFO box and came out with this Hunters Star top. It was my test piece when I bought Deb Tuckers Rapid fire Hunters star ruler last year at the Vermont Quilt Festival. You may remember back in May I put a Hunters Star quilt in to Quilts UK , It was Deb's ruler I used for that quilt.

I saw Deb and her husband again this year in Paducah and bought A lot of these rulers home with me ( Boy They were heavy in my luggage). I am going to be teaching this method of Hunters Star at Cowslip Workshops next March. It is really very accurate and fast method and love it. I want to make another at some point and already bought the fabric. Now just have to find the time to fit another quilt in the list that is my head whirling around.
This top just needed a border adding , Funny how something just sits their for ages being ignored and then you can actually finish it in very little time.

It's 9 klosjes this week . Total now 97.

Probably won't be doing much in the way of sewing this week as I have my Mum coming to stay. It's her Birthday on Tuesday so its a big celebration with my son and girlfriend at a local restaurant. I haven't ordered candles for the cake as we would need the fire brigade to distinguish them, but I am happy that she has made it in pretty good health to 86.
