Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative

I just couldn't stop by and not buy a quilt from Ami Simms at AAQI booth. She has raised well Over 1/2 million dollars auctioning and selling these little quilts to fund research into this terrible desease.
I stopped by a couple of times and felt very emotional and overwhelmed by the whole thing.

I purchased a lovely one with a huge poppy on it and as my lovely friend Dawn who I was staying with in NC loves poppy's it's now on it's way to her.

Funny thing was after I bought it I checked out the back to see who had donated it and it was a lady in NC so it's going back home.

This is me with Ami. Thanks Ami you have done a fantastic job in raising money and awareness for this worthy cause.

  3. Ah, what a great photo of you two. I can only imagine how it felt seeing the display and the heart of those who are working it.

  4. It must have been an emotional visit to Ami's booth but judging from your smiling faces a good visit too.

  5. Sue,
So nice to meet you and delighted that the quilt you purchased from the AAQI booth is going home. There were so many stories like yours over the past five days: Quiltmakers who just happened to be in the booth when their quilt sold, buyer and maker with the same name, people meeting in the booth who grew up in the same neighborhood-----all helping to fight a horrid disease that has touched them too. Smiles to be sure, but a few tears too. Thank you for your support of the AAQI and for blogging about it.

  6. Your comment on AAQI's Facebook page touched me so very, very much. I just had to head over here and 'meet' you and see the photos up close. I know that as you stood surrounded by the love and the energy and the re-channeling of so much sadness and anguish of all of us who quilt for AAQI that you could also feel joy transformed by purpose and hope. Bless you for feeling us and recognizing one of us and therefore all of us with your purchase.

  7. Sue, glad you had a great time at the quilt show. Thanks for sharing the photos of your visit. It's been years since I attended the Houston Quilt Show. I need to go again.

  8. Ami Simms gave a lecture to my guild many years ago. Even though we were in a large theatre I could tell she was a warm and genuine person. Hilarious too! Ami, you and others are touching so many with your efforts. Thanks for sharing.

  9. Great fun Sue! It was an awesome booth - and such a fabulous cause. I think three or four of mine sold and of course I bought one. I wanted Lori's but someone got it before me ;-)

  10. And here it is several months later and I'm just browsing the internet and stumbled in here. Better late than never? Thank you for supporting the AAQI - it's a cause near and dear to my heart. Was Ami leaning on you too heavily? She looks like she might fall over if you weren't holding her up - LOL.
