A Finish and New Book

Here is my Midnight Stars quilt along that Lori put up on her blog last January.

Last year was a busy old year for me but at last I am slowly picking up the reigns again and starting finishing off some small projects.

This lovely new book arrived for my bookshelf this week. Really pleased that my ancestors that left Wales to go to America back in 1800's town is mentioned.(Merthyr Tydfil). My GG grandfathers sister, husband and 3 children set off for Johnstown Pennsylvania  in 1881 and made a new life for themselves. Johnstown is also mentioned in the book .Lots of the Immigrants from the Welsh Valleys headed for there as their was plenty of work in the coal industry . Since finding out about my ancestors immigration I have always wondered whether any quilts went with them. Pretty sure I will never find the answer to this question but do hope so.

  1. You are going to have a very busy and productive year Sue and well done on the quilt. That quilting heritage is in your blood ready to be passed on to that dear little girl you have.

  2. That quilt is lovely, no doubt completing it has inspired you to complete all of those UFO's. I've noticed that book on a few sites, and am contemplating purchasing same. I really like the Welsh quilting designs and I'm always looking for reading material relating to the technique.

  3. Sue, I love the blue fabric you set this together with...beautiful little quilt! I really enjoyed making this little quilt last year, are you going to try to make the Pink Lemonade that Lori has this year? It goes together very quickly!

  6. Great quilt Sue and I am sure you will now set a new routine for the next stage in your life - taking what is good of the old and mixing it with wonderful new challenges. I must add that book to the library. Still trying to come to terms with FB. Take care.

  10. The fabric you used for the alternate squares is lovely. The subtle directional plaid running through it gives such an interesting touch to your Midnight Stars. Well done, Sue.
Maybe I'll get mine out. It's sitting in my stack of "needing more attention" tops that are ready to be quilted.

  14. I do love that striped fabric you used for your plain squares--what a great idea.

A co-worker of mine just moved back to Johnstown, PA, where she was born and raised. Small world!
