Jane's Garden

You may remember that I took a class with Di Ford in Nantes in April. The class was appliqué and I'm not an appliqué girl but absolutely love it and am in awe of you all out there that make huge quilts using this method.
I'm determined to finish my Jane's garden and thought you might like to see how far I am with it.
No close up photo's it's best looked at from a distance.
Now if any of you bloggers that were on the class ( you know who you are) I would love to see your progress.

These are the blocks that will surround it which I'm thoroughly enjoying making.
Partner in crime Sue hunted down the cable fabric on the Internet and we ordered just enough so we didn't get hammered by customs duty. Well the guy who read the customs label totally misread it and not only did we get hammered but the post office added their charge of 8.00 pounds for the privilege of collecting it. Pretty sure that guy needs new glasses !
Right...that piece of cable is expensive so I'm being very careful when I cut it !!!

The winter nights have drawn In here and now find myself sitting in front of the TV and making some more of the Texas Stars and have another two to add to the pile.

Quickly signing off as Downton Abbey has just come on the TV.

  1. Your applique looks amazing to me! Too bad you got gigged on the cutsoms fees. It is a lovely choice in fabric though.

  3. That's an awful price to pay for repro fabric. Next time I'd be happy to help you out. Pretty stars too.

  4. Lovely applique Sue! - so glad you are progressing. And that is a beautiful cable fabric - perfect choice and am sure worth every penny! I've never been charged by customs - would be very annoying indeed poor you. So looking forward to this Downton to come to Australia.

  5. Sue, you + I are probably the sole reason why the Post Office is making a profit! Love your applique + you are way ahead of me on those blocks, but now I've seen yours, I'm keen to get going on it again. Must get it finished before Di's visit next year + we're inspired all over again to begin new projects.Love, PIC X

  6. The applique looks great and I am sure if you persevere you will actually start to enjoy it. The fabrics you have chosen for the pieced blocks are wonderful with gorgeous texture and prints and as for that cable fabric it is really something. Take care.

  8. Your applique looks lovely, and so do the blocks. Oh, I detest customs, as I get hammered too even if I am careful. But if they misread $s for £s.........and that on top of the postage.....

  10. Well done on the applique Sue, those blocks look great with the border fabric. That happened to me too with customs and my bargain ended up being very expensive. Hope to be lucky when Di goes to Jo's next year. Love those little star blocks.

  12. Your applique block is beautiful. I need a lesson in needle turn, so far I stick with wool! Too bad the cable fabric ended up being expensive, but if it makes you feel better, it sure does look nice!
