Birthday Treat

Today was my birthday and its my Partner in Crimes on Friday so we arranged a little birthday treat for ourselves. Naughty girls.

We have talked for so long about going to The Antique Textile Company http://www.antiquetextilescompany.co.uk/ in London and today was the day! 

It was like walking into an Aladdin's cave, such a tiny shop but packed to the gunnels with beautiful quilts. Christopher the owner was so generous with his time and put up with us oohing and aahing 

over very early English quilts that he pulled out. 

I know, I know you just want to see some eye candy. Then you want to know if I bought anything. Yes I did!!!! It's my birthday ! 

Here goes.

Look at the fabrics in these quilts. The shop is small so hard to really hold the quilts up to see the whole thing.

A Slice Of Chedder

I made it to The New England Quilt Museum and to my surprise I was allowed to take photos without flash. If you get a chance to go its on until the 6th October. A must if you are in the area.

Shelburne Museum

I have been lucky enough to visit the Shelburne Museum several times now but never get bored of looking at those wonderful quilts.

This bottom one is my favourite.

Out and About

Yesterday we took a little road trip up to Camden and found a few antiques places along the way. Of course we had to stop and have a rummage around to see what we could find.

It was fun because although my sis is not a quilter she does like Antiques . We would enter the shop she headed off one way and me another and  funnily enough seem to meet back at the pay desk at the same time. 

Both had some small finds and Ann has now been given a crash course on spotting  old quilts. Their seem to be lots of fifties-sixties ones around which were just tied but I did spot the following two that had some age too them.

Whilst travelling the highway we spotted this lady who was making and selling her own quilts. 

We spent a while just quilt talking. 

We had to drive to the top of Mt Battie- What a view and if you could have looked to the left of me a young couple were tying the knot. They just rolled up and along came the minister and in about five minutes flat they were hitched!!!

Wow, we don't do it like that in England.

Tomorrow we leave beautiful Maine and head off to the green mountain of Vermont. Who know's what we might find on the way.

Red and White

With the The Infinite Variety - Red and White Quilt Exhibition looming at the AMERICAN FOLK ART MUSEUM later this month their are many emails flying around in cyber space about quilters meeting up.
I am not sure NYC will know what has hit them as quilters are flying in from all around the globe to see this exhibition.

Taryn from Repro Quilt Lover has asked we post red and white quilt links on her blog so here is my contribution.

Bought from Jen Jones some years back this small 24in cutter sits nicely as a centre piece on my dinning room table . It is definitely welsh from the quilt design .I also wrote about a Red and White Quilt that I own  here. http://isewquiltsuk.blogspot.com/2010/10/whats-on-bed.html.

I have been going through my photos and found a few more Red and Whites ones from way before blogging days that I will post up over the next few days.

It's going to be an exciting year for Red and White Quilts.

Petra Prins stand
The first bit of news is that Sue Reich's World War 11 quilts have been found in Salt Lake City in the Fedex depot there.
Know one knows how they came to be in a completely different part of the USA when the other 3 boxes all went straight home to Washington Depot CT.This is marvelous news for Sue.

So now for the FOQ in Birmingham.
How wonderful, Michael from Oakshott fabrics emailed before I left yesterday to say he had left me an Exhibitors Pass on the door which enabled me to go in 45 minutes before Jo public so could take lots of pictures of quilts before it was crowded. I was supposed to do a little stint on Oakshott stand but the pattern for my quilt hadn't come back from the printers so they didn't put the quilt up. It is supposed to be their today so I am going back on Sunday to help promote my little quilt kit I have made for them . Lovely excuse to go back to this great show.

I had a wonderful day catching up with friends at The FOQ in Birmingham.
My PIC friend Sue found me without any trouble . We are like a couple of homing pigeons always knowing where to find one another at a show.

We spent a long time talking with Mary Koval on her stand, She had some beautiful Antique quilts. I have earmarked a couple when I have that big win on the lottery. LOL

Petra Prinsand Den Haan & Wagenmakers were also there. Petra and Nell have now bought Den Haan & Wagenmakers . I had to purchase the lovely tree of life panel from them and lots of other goodies made it into the bag.
It was really good to see Di Fords Sarah Morrell quilt on Petra's stand and understand it will be going back to Australia later this years and Phebe another of Di Fords quilts is arriving for a holiday in Europe.

Their were some amazing quilts but do feel the UK has gone a bit to contemporary for my personal taste. But that is just me I just love traditional work.

I did photograph a couple contemporary quilts that caught me eye not necessarily winners just ones I liked.
I didn't pick up a programme so don't have anything about the quilters but will pick one up on Sunday when I go back I will then be able to names to quilts.
