Lori's little quilt she made for me.

Gifts from Bev and Mary. Red and White of course.

You know I didn't show any pictures of our time in New York . I can honestly say a good time was had by Sue and I. Apart from one day when we had to get the subway back to the Armoury building we walked our little legs off.
We went up the Empire State building, went to ground zero, walked through central park saw The Jersey Boys, went to the Algonguin Hotel for a cocktail and saw a million other things along the way - Even a Michael Jackson look alike performing in the street that entertained us for a while.

I was so pleased to meet up with Lori of Humble Quilts at the dinner at the Russian Tea rooms, she gave me a lovely little quilt that she had made especially for me. I have counted 35 different repro fabric in the one quilt. I love it and will treasure it. Thanks Lori.

At the dinner Mary Koval gave us all a fat quarter of her RED Baltimore Album range and Bev from Melbourne had made us all a lovely churn dash block RED and White of course.

I am so glad we had the opportunity to meet up with fellow bloggers and non bloggers. New friendships made and some old one's cemented.

We had a great time and would love to do it all over again but preferably when I have been in training for while.

Yesterday I went to church to hear Neil and Emily's banns read for their marriage on the 21st May.

I sobbed all the way up the church path and by the time Emily arrived I was sat outside an emotional wreck. Goodness knows what I am going to be like on the day. I am ordering a large box of tissue's and a beautician to touch up my make up. LOL

Does This Count As Red And White

REDWORK  CRIB QUILT
Does this count as red and white? I bought these pre-embroiderd blocks on ebay about 7 years ago. When I was sizing them up I snipped through one of the blocks and thank goodness my dear friend Linda came to the rescue and re-made the block on her Bernina machine with the embroidery unit. I can always spot the odd one as the muslin we used was just a tad lighter. I expect one day someone will be looking at it and saying WHY DID SHE DO THAT just like we do when we spot and odd thing in an old quilt.

BLOCK 10 Lincolns Platform
I have completed my Block 10 of the Civil War quilt.

See I do other things apart from sew
This is just letting you know I do other things apart from SEW.
Richard my gardener came today and we had a good day tidying up . He comes 1 day a month at this time of year . We have lots to do as I am opening the garden along with several other gardens in the village for The RED CROSS in June.
It really concentrates the mind and I find it pushes me to go out in all weathers to get things looking good for the summer. Next month we are setting about clearing 2 ponds that have become completely overgrown. That will be a fun mucky job but for now the spring garden is looking good with all the Hellebore's and Snowdrops out and the daffodils just coming into bud.
With all this squatting down I have been doing today my legs and back will be feeling it in the morning so its a soak in the bath for me now.

More Red and White

Posted by Picasa

I can't tell you anything about these two quilts except I took the photos at the Minerva Arts Centre back in 2005.
The Minerva Arts centre is where The Quilt Association of Wales have their headquarters and each summer they put on a small exhibition of beautiful quilts.
From home It's about a 3 hour drive on small country roads but you do pass through glorious countryside that takes your breath away.

This years summer exhibition has not been posted yet but you can bet your life it will be on my agenda.

Red and White

With the The Infinite Variety - Red and White Quilt Exhibition looming at the AMERICAN FOLK ART MUSEUM later this month their are many emails flying around in cyber space about quilters meeting up.
I am not sure NYC will know what has hit them as quilters are flying in from all around the globe to see this exhibition.

Taryn from Repro Quilt Lover has asked we post red and white quilt links on her blog so here is my contribution.

Bought from Jen Jones some years back this small 24in cutter sits nicely as a centre piece on my dinning room table . It is definitely welsh from the quilt design .I also wrote about a Red and White Quilt that I own  here. http://isewquiltsuk.blogspot.com/2010/10/whats-on-bed.html.

I have been going through my photos and found a few more Red and Whites ones from way before blogging days that I will post up over the next few days.

It's going to be an exciting year for Red and White Quilts.

Whats on the bed

I have had a little change of whats on the bed. This red and white is another find from Rennigers at Mount Dora, Florida.

It was January and the most awful grey day- raining so hard that DH and I had to wear our bright yellow plastic ponchos that you buy at the theme parks.(Got the picture) not a fashion item but keep you dry.

I was determined to go this day as you can always find something quilt related to buy and that day I found this red and white quilt.
Nothing fancy just plain and simple but I do love two colour quilts.

Puzzling thing about this quilt is it is a nine patch with interspersed snowball blocks - but as you can see the triangles on the corners have been sewn in the corner seams but whipped stitched on one edge. The whole quilt is like this and as first I wondered if the half square triangles were added to the corners as an after thought , but It couldn't have been because the blocks are sewn in to the rest of the quilt.
So their is another hidden story, Why did she do that?I have no real idea of age- probably 1930's but not really sure.
The dealer I bought it from was from Pennsylvania and that is where she said it was purchased .
