Small Treasures

It's incredibly hot here and am now sitting by the pool cooling off. This is the life a little bit of sight seeing  in the morning and relaxing in the afternoon.

Today's visit to the Bennnington Museum is possibly the nearest I'm going to get to see the Dear Jane quilt. Managed to pick up a leaflet about the upcoming exhibition of the 150th Anniversary of the quilt. But alas no Dear Jane for me once again. 

I did stop and pay my respects at her grave in Shaftesbury this morning. What a beautiful place she is laid to rest in with the Green Mountains in the background.

We drove on the back road to Bennington and crossed through his covered bridge.

I managed a little shopping at Country Treasures in Chester yesterday. Fabulous selection of repros so I couldn't not could I!!!!

Had to do a slight detour when I saw this barn sign. It was a quilt shop called Waterwheel. Lots of very bright fabrics and not one repro to be found. They were very nice and pretty sure their fabric appeals to the young and funky. I did buy a delightful bright panel to make something for Abi. 

So tomorrow we leave but not before I stop off at The New England quilt museum to see the latest exhibit of Pennsylvania cheddar quilts. 

Hope I'm allowed  to take photos- but some how think not.

Shelburne Museum

I have been lucky enough to visit the Shelburne Museum several times now but never get bored of looking at those wonderful quilts.

This bottom one is my favourite.

Out and About

Yesterday we took a little road trip up to Camden and found a few antiques places along the way. Of course we had to stop and have a rummage around to see what we could find.

It was fun because although my sis is not a quilter she does like Antiques . We would enter the shop she headed off one way and me another and  funnily enough seem to meet back at the pay desk at the same time. 

Both had some small finds and Ann has now been given a crash course on spotting  old quilts. Their seem to be lots of fifties-sixties ones around which were just tied but I did spot the following two that had some age too them.

Whilst travelling the highway we spotted this lady who was making and selling her own quilts. 

We spent a while just quilt talking. 

We had to drive to the top of Mt Battie- What a view and if you could have looked to the left of me a young couple were tying the knot. They just rolled up and along came the minister and in about five minutes flat they were hitched!!!

Wow, we don't do it like that in England.

Tomorrow we leave beautiful Maine and head off to the green mountain of Vermont. Who know's what we might find on the way.

What a View

Good morning America- nothing quilty going on with me as I'm having fun in Maine with my sister ( none quilter) just fun time together enjoying beautiful New England.

It's Been Ages

Yes it really has been a while I know. All I can tell you is I always seem busy busy busy and why?  Well  the following photos will tell you why.

This little person and I have been sharing lots of time together and I often have to go and  lie down when she's gone home. You really forget what hard work they are. I'm nuts about her though.

Definitely not much sewing going on here but I am going show you some photos of a lovely talk we had at our quilt group a few weeks ago. It was called INSPIRATION NORGE.
 Some lovely Norwegian ladies came in their national costumes to show us the type of quilts they make.
They explained that as they have very long dark winters in Norway  they like to use red in their quilts.

They explained that the costumes are regional and differ from area to area.

As you can see they do love a bit of red in their quilts.
We finished  off the evening with this traditional cake that one of them had made for us to try.
